                                                                                Hey guys,
i have been using this Sansui model VC-R960ES for quite a while now because it has AV support and my old Sony TV doesn't, in order to play my ps2 games. now the problem started last time i went to turn it on, i have noticed this lock icon in the display of the VCR all along, but didnt really care because it runs just fine with the remote, but without the remote, which for some reason stopped working and ive tried loads of batteries that should definetely work, that lock just blinks for about 5 seconds everytime i try to press any button in order to turn the machine on etc, the only thing i got on to get it working now is putting a tape in, and then pressing eject and it ejects it, but then i cant even press power to turn it off or anything because its all locked via the buttons on the player itself, i have to reconnect it from the power outlet to "close" it.
so my question is does anyone know how i can disable that damn lock icon ? its driving me crazy and i cant find any sansui info on the web (let alone the exact model) i dont know if ill be able to get the remote working so this is sorta important :-)

Thanks heaps if someone can help me out here i will really be grateful.

Check if there is a reset button somewhere. Used to be a small hole where you can use a pencil or a paper clip for resetting.

Sansui products these days are not produced by the original Sansui Electric Co in Japan. The trade name Sansui is sold to a Chinese Group who order different types of items from several factories. These factories doesn't even know each other. Pity but true.

I can give you some Sansui addresses.

http://www.sansui-india.com/  (I guess best service of them all)

http://www.sansui-global.com/english/front.php

http://www.orionsalesinc.com/access/access.htm

This one has a near named model

Try to search on internet for their email addresses.

Sorry, but I really don't know much about this newer Sansui equipment.  This site is dedicated to the older, High End equipment that Sansui Electric Co Japan used to make.

One thing sure is, though, there is no technical relationship whatsoever with Sansui Japan products.  Carrying the same logo, that is the only thing in common.

yea ive noticed that over the web thats why its impossible to find the cure for this, so frustrating :-\ ive been emailing about 4 "customer support" services so far, if i wont get an answer by tomorrow i will be back to where i started i guess.. umm well i guess my parents bought this player an old time ago, we usually go for high end stuff when it comes to the more used things such as TV's etc, we wont get any VCR's anymore so its not that big of a deal, i just need this for AV compatibility. damn that lock icon is so annoying, whenever i see it i get angry lol

I guess it will be some way to reset the player.

Can't you ask your parents if they have the Operating Manual or where they bought this player so you can ask the retailer.

i doubt they will know where that operating manual is, or maybe we even threw it away a long time ago. and i doubt they will remember where we bought it from.
everything i own personally has alot of internet support aswell as i keep all the things that came with it (usually) and so im very organized in that, this damn VCR is just old so not only it doesnt have support online, its like it was never existant :-\

Guys,

I seriously warn you to go for Sansui products. They are poor quality and moreover the support is just on papers. I do not think the support services exist in real world.

My misery started in january 2007 when i bought sansui plasma tv and home theatre on my birthday. By july 2007, the woofer of home theatre system started making noise. I complained at sansui support center. AFTER A MONTH OF REPEATED CALLS TO THEIR SUPPORT CENTER, 2 guys came to my home who started fighting with us over the issue that we had given wrong address at their support center. I checked the address and it was perfectly fine, it was their mistake that they were finding the address in a wrong street. SANSUI SHOULD HIRE TECHNICAL STAFF WHO HAVE BASIC MANNERS AND ETIQUETTES.

then they asked us to start the home theatre system, i did so. voice was clean that time and they said its all fine. i told them that voice starts getting bad in about 15 minutes after its switched on. they told me that they are busy guys and do not have time and cannot wait for 15 mins and we should have it switched on and should call them only when it starts getting bad. THEY WENT WITHOUT TOUCHING ANYTHING.

I raised a complaint again in the month of july. After repeated calls to Sansui staff at all levels, I COULD GET A TECH PERSON AT MY PLACE AFTER 4 months of filing first complaint. atleats that guy was pretty patient and sat for 20 minutes and them he could see what the problem was. he switched off the woofer, unscrewed the woofer box and screwed it again. I switched on the system and voice was fine. He asked to leave and i asked him to stay there for 20 mins because the system was restarted and i wanted to check if it remains fine till 20 mins after switching on the system. But the guy was restless and insisted to leave. He left and well after 20 mins woofer started making noises again.

I got annoyed and after 3 days i.e on 20th november 2007, i called their support center and asked the guy about the problem. Mr. S. K  Jain immediately handed over phone to another guy because he knew that i was pretty annoyed with their services. The other guy asked me for complaint number. I gave him the complaint number and that joker told me that the complaint number did not exist. WHAT A JOKE!!!!
I had a tech guy here on that complaint number few days back. After hearing this, I completely lost it. I told them that i have had enough for LAST 4 MONTHS and if my system is not fixed within one day, I would sue them. They guy told me in a very insulting tone that I could do whatever I could and I was not the only one. WELL THIS IS THEIR ATTITUDE TOWARDS THEIR CUSTOMERS.

My most latest complaint number is 400sc07k12787 , if anyone wants to know more about their products email me at mail@thewebdrivers.com or call me at 9871419619. they did lots of other small things which can irritate even the most coolest creatures on earth.

IGNORE SANSUI LIKE PLAGUE!!!!! PAY MORE FOR BETTER SUPPORT SERVICES.

A Chinese holding company (The Grande Group) controls the brand name Sansui and they wants to get their invested money back. The easiest way for them is to sell Sansuiā€™s rights and cheap Chinese junks.

High End equipment that Sansui Electric Co Japan used to make are not produced anymore as all factories own by Sansui Electric Co Japan are sold out.

One thing for sure is, though, there is no technical relationship whatsoever with Sansui Japan products and those junk items made after year 2000.  They carrying the same logo, that is the only thing in common.

Nowadays, you can find Sansui brand MP3,TV,VCR,DVD players carrying the same logo.  They are manufactured and distributed by different companies.  These companies are from different countries in the world, and they even don't know each other.  This is the result of Chinese holding company selling Sansui brand name to anybody and anyplace in the world.

One company carrying Sansui DVD ( http://www.sansui-india.com/ ) is pretty good for customer support, but others are like "Thank you for buying our junks, and good bye!". It's very sad that the Chinese holding company does not understand the global brand strategy, or they don't care about it.

Here are some of the companies

I donot understand why the comment posted above says that sansui-india.com is good at customer support. the customer support center link on their website does not work. SANSUI IN WHOLE AS A BRAND IS PATHETIC!!!

I just checked the link and it works.  http://www.servicedelight.com/
By the way, don't include the real Sansui products manufactured by Sansui Electric Co Japan. They are high end units.
All products made after year 2000 are produced by different companies who
bought the right to use Sansui name
