HI, I RECENTLY AQUIRED 2 SANSUI SP-220 PREAMPS AND AM UNABLE TO FIND ANY INFO ON THEM. MY TECH HAS THEM UP AND RUNNING AND THEY SOUND BEAUTIFUL. I HAVE THEM CONNECTED TO A Q-3535 THAT I REALLY TREASURE. I WAS TOLD THAT THE 220 WAS SOLD WITH THE Q-3535 BACK IN 1958 SO I SUPPOSE THEY WERE MET FOR EACH OTHER. ANYWAY CAN ANYONE TELL ME THE VALUE OF THESE SP-220'S. AND WHY I DON'T SEE ANY INFO ON THESE. I NEVER EVEN SAW ONE ON EBAY. THANKS

Don First of all, use lower case letter. Upper case equal you are shouting. Not very much about your SP-220 but I can give you this. The SP-220 was introduced in 1958 - the first stereo pre-amplifier with 2 channel active crossover built in. The Stereo Sound (magazine in Japan) said it was used by professionals as well. Obviously, it was intended to match with the Q-3535 introduced around the same time

Hi Don, I just ran across your post on the SP-220, and can tell you a few things about it and the Q-3535. The company I was working for as a teen was the first importer of the Sansui product line (didn't do well at it!) so I was able to buy a pre-amp and amplifiers at cost. The SP-220 preamp had DC voltage on the filiments to keep the hum down and I used it to drive both a Q-3535 for the bass speakers in my system and I used a Q-1515 (I believe) for the Mid-High amplifier. The two amplifiers looked alike except the Q-3535 was larger and used the EL-34s whereas the Q-1515 used the EL-85 power tubes. At the time I was not yet in High School, but had one of the first Stereo Systems in the city. 15" Altec Woofers and the horns were the 500 hz exponential horns by Altec also. The SP-220 provided all the inputs and outputs a person could need, and had equizalition for RIAA phono as well as NAB tape input . Very clean. Del

Hi Del Do you still have the pre-amps? Did you manage to source any schematics? Regards Hennie
